Sprint All-Star Challenge

ALL-STAR RACE FORMAT

Overview

The NASCAR All-Star event features two races:

  1. Sprint All-Star Race XXV (start time approximately 7:30 PM CT) - 4-segment, 100-lap race involving winners of the 2008 and 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races through the Southern 500, either as a driver or team owner, and also includes past winners of the Cup series from 1998 through 2008, as well as previous winners of the All-Star Race. NEW FOR 2009: The 25th running of the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race will feature a 10-lap shootout as its final segment, reviving memories of some of the event’s most spectacular finishes.
  2. Sprint Showdown Race (start time approximately 6:30 PM CT) - drivers that have not qualified for the All-Star Race will be in a 40-lap race (two 20-lap segments) that runs prior to the All-Star Race. The top two drivers from this race, along with a fan ballot driver will advance to race in the Sprint All-Star Race XXV.

Nineteen (19) drivers are already eligible for the 2009 Sprint All-Star Race XXV. If a driver wins a 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Race from now until the start of the All-Star Challenge, he will become eligible as well and will be assigned an appropriate driver value.
